Root Canal Treatment aims to resolve discomfort caused by nerve damage within a tooth. During two sessions, the inside of the tooth roots will be carefully cleaned and filled to prevent further inflammation or discomfort.
Symptoms that might occur when you need root canal therapy may include tooth darkening after an accident (trauma), severe pain from an infection, or a dying nerve.
Various diagnostic tests and x-rays will be performed when you see your dentist. This will determine whether root canal therapy is needed. During your consultation, your dentist will fully explain all treatment options and procedures so that you have a choice over your dental care.
Two to three treatment sessions are normally required for a straightforward treatment case.
The first step is to clean and shape the root canals within the tooth to remove bacteria and decay. This is then followed by the application of an antibiotic dressing and a temporary filling.
After a few weeks have elapsed, the roots of the healed tooth will need to be repaired with a permanent filling to prevent future infection.
After their first session, the majority of our patients see a significant improvement.
Although root canal treatment prevents the loss or removal of the tooth, it does leave it slightly weakened. Your dentist may recommend that you have a dental crown placed to help prevent breakages.
