Your dental team uses fillings to repair damaged teeth. Teeth might be damaged from decay, trauma, or attrition. At FP Dental, we restore your smile so you can carry on your day-to-day business without discomfort.
Why do I need a filling?
If a tooth has a cavity, it must be filled to prevent further decay. Cavities are caused by food that gets trapped between the teeth and creates a plaque trap. Plaque is a build-up of bacteria and sugar that forms acids on the surface of teeth. Cavities are caused when these acids erode enamel or the outer layer of the tooth.
What types of fillings are there?
Silver or amalgam fillings are used on posterior teeth. Some of the metals used to make amalgam are mercury, silver, tin, and copper. These filings are frequently used for their strength and stability.
Composite resins and glass are used to create white fillings, which are tooth-coloured. They are available in multiple shades to match the natural colour of your teeth. Composite fillings are available as part of a private treatment plan. They are also available to use on the front teeth under the NHS.
Fillings made of powdered glass, called Glass Ionomer Fillings, are another tooth-coloured option. These fillings help prevent decay by establishing a chemical relationship between the tooth and the filling material and releasing fluoride.
Should I replace all my existing fillings with white ones?
If you feel self-conscious when you smile due to dark fillings, replacing them may be an option. This will be dependent on the remaining tooth structure. Many patients choose to swap their amalgam fillings for composite fillings as part of a private treatment plan, and we are happy to discuss the process with you.

Had an emergency consultation yesterday 21.11.2024.Going in thinking I needed to have a filing to finding out I had an abscess under my back bottom tooth and it had to come out.Not the news I was expecting,so had a mini meltdown.Muddassir Hassan calmed me down and reassured me it would be ok.He managed to get the tooth out in one piece with very little discomfort,even though it had the longest root he had ever seen. He would be a very good addition to the team and I hope he stays.Thank you 😊

My previous dentist made me absolutley dread going so when I moved to FP I really wasn’t in the best mindset on my visits, I mainly see Andreia and sometimes Bruno but both of them have really settled me and as much as I still have the anxiety each time I go I don’t dread it. Their friendly, calm and understanding manners really so settle me & it really helps that they explain everything that’s happening. The girls on reception & within the rooms are great too. We have moved just over half an hour away from the surgery but the travel really is worth the service.
As a retired Customer Services Manager, I know I am hyper critical about the level of service I receive, but I must admit I could not find any fault in the way I was treated at FP Dental.Reception and dental staff were professional yet friendly, and I was even treated to a 'sing a long' in my ear while being drilled for a filling - at no extra charge !

Yesterday i went with my son there and didn't have to wait too long the dentist was very professional the nurse was very helpful and both very kind and gentle. Dentist knew how to deal with kids. She knows her onion even my son said to me dentist was very polite. I was fully satisfied.

The make me feel so comfortable and tailor to my needs.Andrea on reception is always super helpful & friendly!The prices on all treatments are great, they only increase when the government ups the prices, but they themselves do not inflate on that charge.I am a NHS patient, I have recommended both my partner (pay as you go patient) & and my cousin (private health care patient). My little boy who is 6 needed a filling today, Jenna was absolutely amazing with him, it was explained in such a positive age appropriate way to him that he felt at ease and relaxed, would definitely recommend Jenna and her dental nurse who were so patient and caring throughout the treatment.

First time here, I took my elderly father in law. All the staff were so lovely, friendly and welcoming. The practice was spotless. My father in law was very nervous as he hasn't been to a dentist for a long time. They couldn't have put him more at ease. The dentist we saw introduced himself as Bruno, and was so lovely, he explained everything, and asked if we had any questions, and didn't rush anything. Absolutely the best dentist in Barnsley and I have experienced a few. I have had a lot of dental problems over the years and suffer from anxiety. The team at FP are like my second family they are always show upmost professionalism but are also so down to earth and so caring they are always willing to help no matter how big or small your issue. I will be forever grateful.
My initial reservations when FP Dental took over from my original dentist were quickly allayed. Several years on, I am still completely happy with the level of service I receive from the whole team in a professional and friendly manner. In addition to Jim, I have received treatment from other dentists in the practice and remain highly satisfied.

I've been a patient at FP Dental since I was young and now my own daughter and husband come here too. Aside of being highly knowledgeable, all the staff are lovely and friendly - so much so, that my 5yro daughter looks forward to going and has never had a fear of Dentists! They offer amazing varied services including cosmetic/aesthetic work at which theye highly skilled. I've never struggled to get an appointment and their patient care is outstanding.The clinic itself is always very clean and welcoming and they're also close to a free car park. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

I’ve not had a dentist for a long time so was very nervous about coming. However Jim was excellent and made the whole experience a good one. With a plan of action now sorted, I feel much happier about my smile then I have done in a long time.
Over the years, more than I care to think about, I have always been grateful to have had a local dentist. Since Catherine Davey joined the practice I have come to realise how lucky i, and other patients,have been to have been looked after so well. And when I have had dealings with other members of the team, from the receptionists to the ladies who remove foreign bodies from my mouth during a procedure, i have always been impressed.On the negative side I fear that you can't make my teeth last forever, and that you need a stair carpet to muffle the noise from the stairs.

As someone who suffers from nerves and anxiety i can honestly say that I can't remember the last time I was made to feel so comfortable by strangers. I saw the hygienist. Completely kind and professional. I require further treatment and I go into that feeling positively. I would recommend that if you need a dentist practice to use this one.
Few people look forward to visiting their dentist unless they are in pain. The practice has a new addition to their staff, however, and Jamil Salim is as gentle and pleasant as a dentist could possibly be. Everything I experienced during my appointment today was professional and efficient. I can certainly recommend this practice to others.

After 30 years of Mr Gatecliff looking after our family dental requirements at the Limes dental surgery I have now been moved to a new female dentist operating at the practice on his retirement. She was very informative about questions I raised and did a yearly check on the condition of my teeth checking for any other issues in the mouth and throat area that may show signs of potential cancer.I was happy with the service and will continue to attend as a NHS patient.I would like to thank Mr Gatecliff for his work and saving many a tooth from extraction over the years and wish him and his family a happy retirement.

We visited Limes Dental practice for our annual check up. The whole process went so well. Right from checking in with the receptionist, to the check up itself, was handled so professionally. We were well looked after. We met our new dentist and dental nurse, who put us both at ease straight away. The dentist explained everything he was doing first and ensured that we were happy and comfortable. I have a few mobility issues, which caused me a bit of concern, but I needn't have worried. Everyone was so helpful, understanding, and made sure I was OK. Nothing was too much to ask.I would definitely recommend Limes Dental practice, and I will not hesitate to go back, should I need to do so before my next check up.

I am not the best customer with regards to a relaxed one, but I have to say everyone here from checking in to leaving are absolutely great.Information and support is great and person centered, do they don’t expect you to do a full turn but adapt to your routine and timeI would not go anywhere else now .. they are stuck with me.I do encourage anyone who is looking looking for a dentist .. come here :)3 adults in our house have changed dentist from each of our experience It encouraged all of us to come here.100% for FP Dentist for a customer journey
Have been with this practice all my life and I'm almost 36. I grew up with 'McBride & Walker' and in more recent years have seen the transformation by FP Dental. Always a great friendly service. I often see Jenna, Ellis and Jamil and all of them are always so lovely. A special thank you to Jenna who got my dental hygiene back on track after a few missed appointment during COVID.
My little boy who is 6 needed a filling today, Jenna was absolutely amazing with him, it was explained in such a positive age appropriate way to him that he felt at ease and relaxed, would definitely recommend Jenna and her dental nurse who were so patient and caring throughout the treatment.
Had a wonderful experience with my 2 children having fillings last week with the lovely Jenna, who took her time to explain to them everything that she was going to do, both me and my husband was so impressed! We have been taking our children here since they were little and both of them are now happy to go every time. The whole team are brilliant at what they do and we are so happy with the treatment we receive every time. I would 100% recommend to anyone looking for a dentist.
My little girl had her first proper visit to the dentist today with Tawasul Abdelrah and she was absolutely amazing with her, she made her feel relaxed and she really enjoyed her experience. First time here, I took my elderly father in law. All the staff were so lovely, friendly and welcoming. The practice was spotless. My father in law was very nervous as he hasn't been to a dentist for a long time. They couldn't have put him more at ease. The dentist we saw introduced himself as Bruno, and was so lovely, he explained everything, and asked if we had any questions, and didn't rush anything. I would definitely recommend this surgery to anyone looking for a dentist. Many kind thanks

Absolutely the best dentist in Barnsley and I have experienced a few. I have had a lot of dental problems over the years and suffer from anxiety. The team at FP are like my second family they are always show upmost professionalism but are also so down to earth and so caring they are always willing to help no matter how big or small your issue. I will be forever grateful.
My initial reservations when FP Dental took over from my original dentist were quickly allayed. Several years on, I am still completely happy with the level of service I receive from the whole team in a professional and friendly manner. In addition to Jim, I have received treatment from other dentists in the practice and remain highly satisfied.
I have been visiting this practice for years and have never been disappointed. All staff are very friendly and approachable and make visiting the dentist a pleasure! Staff are very helpful and can answer any questions in depth, taking the time to provide thorough information and explanations. I wouldn't go anywhere else!
Been going to this practice for years and always had good experience. I'm incredibly nervous when it comes to visiting the dentist but they always make me feel at ease and never make you feel rushed. I've had to have quite a bit of work done recently and Jenna and Ellis were brilliant and made sure I was comfortable throughout! Wouldn't go anywhere else now.
I've been a patient at FP Dental since I was young and now my own daughter and husband come here too. Aside of being highly knowledgeable, all the staff are lovely and friendly - so much so, that my 5yro daughter looks forward to going and has never had a fear of Dentists! They offer amazing varied services including cosmetic/aesthetic work at which theye highly skilled. I've never struggled to get an appointment and their patient care is outstanding.The clinic itself is always very clean and welcoming and they're also close to a free car park. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

I have been with FP dental since I was born (34 years) My children and I have always received excellent care. Recently I have suffered with my gums and Jenna came to my rescue, my teeth have never felt healthier. Keep up the great work Bruno and the rest of the team.

I cannot speak highly enough of Bruno @ The limes dental practice. He is welcoming, entertaining, thoughtful and very professional. I never thought a trip to the dentist would be such a wonderful experience. I cannot recommend him and all his team highly enough. He is a magnificent ambassador for his profession as are the rest of his team. I have had several treatments at the practice and have never in my 54 years looked forward to visiting a dentist! I’ve not had a dentist for a long time so was very nervous about coming. However Jim was excellent and made the whole experience a good one. With a plan of action now sorted, I feel much happier about my smile then I have done in a long time.
Over the years, more than I care to think about, I have always been grateful to have had a local dentist. Since Catherine Davey joined the practice I have come to realise how lucky i, and other patients,have been to have been looked after so well. And when I have had dealings with other members of the team, from the receptionists to the ladies who remove foreign bodies from my mouth during a procedure, i have always been impressed.On the negative side I fear that you can't make my teeth last forever, and that you need a stair carpet to muffle the noise from the stairs.
We have lived in the area of the practice for the last 8 yrs and have been registered with the practice since arriving. I/we see Catherine Daley who is superb, the reception staff first class and the treatment excellent. Well done.
As someone who suffers from nerves and anxiety i can honestly say that I can't remember the last time I was made to feel so comfortable by strangers. I saw the hygienist. Completely kind and professional. I require further treatment and I go into that feeling positively. I would recommend that if you need a dentist practice to use this one.
Few people look forward to visiting their dentist unless they are in pain. The practice has a new addition to their staff, however, and Jamil Salim is as gentle and pleasant as a dentist could possibly be. Everything I experienced during my appointment today was professional and efficient. I can certainly recommend this practice to others.
Great Dentists, email and text reminders for all your appts, really lovely reception staff and Dr Gina has been amazing with me. I've had to have a fair bit done but she's worked to get me sorted as quickly, affordably and comfortably as possible. 10/10
Very welcoming and friendly new dentist. He was very considerate and professional, didn’t have to wait long to see him for my checkup. His assistant was also professional and kind.The receptionist was also helpful and efficient.I left feeling very impressed by the experience.

I have been a patient of Mrs. Wolverson for 40 years, both in Doncaster and the last 12 years at The Limes. I have always had excellent, gentle, professional and sympathetic treatment from both Mrs. Wolverson and her nurses. The reception staff are equally considerateand so polite and respectful, and will always try to accommodate an urgent appointment. I saw Jim in Mrs. Wolverson's absence and he was equally professional, but very kind and gentle.I am never apprehensive attending The Limes, as I am confident I will be looked after with the utmost care.

Unavoidable circumstances meant I missed my appointment today. I called in to apologise and rearrange and the lovely receptionist was able to fit me in there and then. Dentist was lovely, very friendly and professional and remembered all my medical history. I would definitely recommend this practice
After 30 years of Mr Gatecliff looking after our family dental requirements at the Limes dental surgery I have now been moved to a new female dentist operating at the practice on his retirement. She was very informative about questions I raised and did a yearly check on the condition of my teeth checking for any other issues in the mouth and throat area that may show signs of potential cancer.I was happy with the service and will continue to attend as a NHS patient.I would like to thank Mr Gatecliff for his work and saving many a tooth from extraction over the years and wish him and his family a happy retirement.

We visited Limes Dental practice for our annual check up. The whole process went so well. Right from checking in with the receptionist, to the check up itself, was handled so professionally. We were well looked after. We met our new dentist and dental nurse, who put us both at ease straight away. The dentist explained everything he was doing first and ensured that we were happy and comfortable. I have a few mobility issues, which caused me a bit of concern, but I needn't have worried. Everyone was so helpful, understanding, and made sure I was OK. Nothing was too much to ask.I would definitely recommend Limes Dental practice, and I will not hesitate to go back, should I need to do so before my next check up.
